Step 1 – Determine Design

Pondless Waterfall: Water drops over rocks into a hidden underground basin — no open pond. Safe for kids and pets, easy to maintain, and works great in small yards.

Stream & Waterfall: Water flows along a stream bed and drops into a hidden basin. Pick a longer liner to match how far you want the stream to run.

Tip: Measure your space before picking a kit. The basin needs to hold enough water to keep the pump running when the feature is off.

Step 2 – Calculate Size
Stream and basin illustration

Water in Transit (WIT) is how much water is moving through your stream at any one time. When the pump turns off, all that water drains back into the basin — so the basin needs to hold all of it.

WIT formula: Stream Length × Width × Avg Depth × 7.48 = gallons
Recommended basin: 2.5× your WIT  ·  Minimum: 1.5× WIT
Use the calculator below to find your numbers.

Pick your liner size below. Use the calculator first — your best match will be highlighted in orange.

Enter your stream dimensions to find out how much water you're moving and how big your basin needs to be.

* Tip: 3 inches deep = 0.25 ft. Stream only — measure pools separately and add to basin volume.

Select your liner size below. Calculate your WIT above first — your best match will be highlighted in orange.

Step 4 – Consider MatrixBlox

MatrixBlox replace gravel in your basin. They hold a lot more water in a smaller space, which means less digging and a more reliable feature.

  • Holds way more water than gravel — 96% void space, 31.5 gallons per block
  • Less digging — same water capacity in a smaller hole
  • Holds weight — safe under boulders, pavers, and sod
  • Easy to install — panels snap together in seconds
How many blocks? Take your WIT, multiply by 1.5, then divide by 31.5.

Note: The 10,000 GPH kits always come with MatrixBlox — they'll show up either way.
